Pittsburgh again put up 8 runs in a 8-4 win over St. Louis. The big blow in
the game was a 5 spot posted by the Pirates in the 3rd inning. With runners
on 1st and 3rd, Pittsburgh stroked 5 straight singles to take a 5-0 lead and
chasing Clay Kirby. St. Louis did get as close as 6-4, but the Bucs added
2 more runs in the 8th to close out the scoring. Ted Simmons cracked 2 homers
for the Cardinals.

Pittsburgh completed the sweep of the Cardinals with a 5-2 win in the finale.
Dock Ellis pitched pretty good as did Mike Caldwell. St. Louis took a 1-0
lead in the 1st inning when Ted Simmons hit his 3rd homer of the series.
Pittsburgh regained the lead in the 5th as Dock Ellis reached on a 2 out
error by Ken Reitz. Fred Patek then tripled and Patek scored on a Rennie
Stennett base hit. Pittsburgh added 2 runs in the 7th as Ellis had a RBI
single and Willie Stargell drew a bases loaded HBP. Dave Giusti picked up
his 1st save of the year with a scoreless 9th.
