July 14 Baseballs were flying all over the ballpark as the New York AL Yankees ran roughshod over the seemingly hapless Chicago NL Cubs. The New York AL offense rolled up a total of 11 runs!. Mickey Mantle had a big evening at the plate. He ripped a base-knock in the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 26th of the season) in the 3rd inning and hit a single which was good for two runs in the 4th inning. New York AL had 14 hits for the game and Chicago NL had 7. Don Larsen(11-0) went 6 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Bob Rush(10-5) suffered the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. Donovan(7-7) was in control of the game from the outset. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.39. New York AL made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Bob Turley(6-5) was tagged with the loss. Despite losing, he struckout 11 Chicago NL batters in 7 innings. 'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' New York AL's manager said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
