Mickey Mantle had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the New York AL Yankees smashed the
overmatched Boston Red Sox, 14 to 1.

New York AL drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  The early run support proved
sufficient for Tom Sturdivant(9-6) and New York AL.  That was all the run
support Sturdivant required.  New York AL bats were hot in the 2nd inning
which saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits.  The New York AL offense poured it on,
scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Johnny Kucks(7-8) absorbed the loss.

Gene Freese cracked 3 homeruns and had 5Boston Red
Sox, running on all cylinders, ripped the New York AL Yankees by a large 17
to 6 margin.

Freese was spectacular at the plate.  He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 2nd inning, blasted a solo shot in the 3rd inning, slapped a
one-base hit in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 7th of
the season) in the 6th inning.  Boston bats were very productive in the 2nd
inning when they had 5 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning plating 4 runs.  The
Boston offense man-handled the New York AL pitching staff as they scored in 7
of the 9 innings.

Lindy McDaniel(11-12) allowed 5 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
The loss was charged to Don Larsen(12-2).  He served up 4 gopher balls in 2
and 1/3 innings.
