Phil Niekro held Chicago NL scoreless on just 3 hits at Wrigley Field where
the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago NL Cubs 4 to 0.

Niekro(11-6) was on top of his game. He surrendered only 3 hits and 3 walks
in 9 innings. Atlanta had 7 hits for the afternoon.

Fergie Jenkins(11-12) was given the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits in
8 innings. Alan Boodman was obviously impressed with the pitching of Niekro,
'That guy made us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just
couldn't get to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope
that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
