Subject: Braves @ Expos
Being a lifelong Twins fan, when I think of disgusting relief pitchers, I remember Ron Davis well. He was great with the Yankees, but when he came to the Twins, he seemed to revel in creating new ways to lose games. For example, my favorite: At Fenway, He comes in with a 4 run lead. Of course he gives up the grand slam to tie, and with the manager being used to this, he keeps Davis in the game to save another arm. Well Ron loads up the bases again, with 2 out of course.The he hangs a soft curve into the back of the next hitter, sending him to first and having created another way to lose.
Why do I mention such sad memories?
Charlie Hough is now with my Braves team. He may be reaching heights not even reached by Ron Davis in our 1974 season, and we aren't even half way home yet. Hough feeds up Gopher balls like we were playing keg-softball here. (8 in 31 innings to date this season) He had a 3.75 era and was 10-4 in real life circa 1974, so I figure, hey, he's got to start doing better sooner or later, his card is pretty decent, especially against righties. No chance. He continues to blow games at a legendary rate. He blew the first two games of this Montreal series single handedly, and the Bravos are not good enough to overcome such regular disappointment. OK, I'm done ranting, but Chuck earned this one. He ought either learn the knuckler or start
Expos take 2 of 3 from Atlanta, bottom line. The rest of the team played pretty well.
