Mike Hershberger had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Municipal Stadium as the Kansas
City A's beat the struggling New York AL Yankees 6 to 4.

Kansas City scored 4 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 4 hits.  The big
moment was provided by Danny Cater who electrified Municipal Stadium when he
laced a one-base hit plating two runs.  New York AL threatened in the 9th but
Kansas City was able to put down the rally.

Jim Nash(4-15) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Tony Pierce
recorded the save, his 5th.  Al Downing(6-15) absorbed the loss.  He was
knocked around by Kansas City, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.

Fred Talbot hurled a fine complete game shutout and third baseman John Kennedy
blasted a grand slam as the New York AL Yankees topped the Kansas City A's by
a score of 5 to 0 at Municipal Stadium.

Kennedy enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He caught a hold of a bad pitch
for a Grand Slam homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 6th inning, laced a
base-hit in the 8th inning and slapped a single in the 9th inning.  New York
AL and Kansas City each finished the night with 6 hits.

Talbot(5-8) went the distance for the shutout. Bo Belinsky(1-3) ended up with
the loss.  He allowed just 4 runs and 2 hits in 5 innings.

'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory is especially
sweet' offered Billy Vanson.  Now, we just have to make this the norm - not
the exception!'
