October 5 Catcher Ed Bailey blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Crosley Field as the Cincinnati Reds came back dramatically to top the New York AL Yankees by the score of 8 to 7. Cincinnati had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. Wally Moon led off and started the rally when he reached on an error. Duke Snider struck out, unable to help the rally. One out later, Bailey stepped in and he smashed a two-run homer (his 2nd of the season) giving Cincinnati the victory and sending the 46,515 home-town fans home happy. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 6 times. Don Mossi(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs. Bob Grim(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work. Birdie Tebbets was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, New York AL's manager, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
