The Mets split the 4 game set with the Padres. Game 1: The Mets jump out to an early lead and hang on for dear life. Game 2: A fine performance from Koosman is wasted as Fred Kendall smashes a walk-off come-from-behind homer off a Tug McGraw scroogie. Game 3: San Diego spots the Mets a pair then takes control for a 5-2 win. Game 4: A tense pitching duel as Gaylord Perry takes a no-hitter into the 8th before his spitter moves a little too much.
