Whitey Ford held Washington to 3 hits at Griffith Stadium as the New York AL
Yankees beat the Washington Senators by the count of 2 to 1.
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  After an out was recorded, Hank Bauer
cracked a solo homerun (his 1st of the season).  New York AL finished with 8
hits in the victory.
Ford(1-0) allowed 1 run on the game. Chuck Stobbs(0-1) took the loss.  He
surrendered 8 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 2/3 innings.  'He was moving it around
and spotting it very well.' Washington's manager said.  Ford pitched a great
game. He deserves all the credit.'
