April 20

At Polo Grounds, the New York NL faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Johnny Antonelli(4-1) finally bested his New York AL
counterpart, Vinegar Bend Mizell(3-2), by the score of 2 to 0.
New York NL jumped on top of New York AL in the bottom of the 3rd inning
scoring a single run on 2 hits.  Daryl Spencer doubled.  Two outs later Eddie
Yost came up and he laced a base-knock.  That early scoring held up.  Neither
team managed to score after the 4th inning.
Antonelli got relief help from Hoyt Wilhelm who gained credit for his 2nd
save.  Mizell took the loss.  He allowed 7 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.
New York NL now has a record of 8-7.  With the loss, New York AL has a record
of 7-3 lately, 11-4 overall.

April 21

At Polo Grounds, the New York NL fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Ruben
Gomez(1-3) finally bested his New York AL opposite, Don Larsen(1-1), by the
score of 2 to 1.
The game was won by New York NL with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
After an out was recorded, Willie Mays hit a bases-empty home run (his 4th of
the season).  Whitey Lockman stepped up next and he drew a walk.  One out
later, Marv Blaylock came to the plate and slapped a single.  Bobby Thomson
stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Daryl Spencer got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  New York NL had
only 6 hits for the night.
Hoyt Wilhelm earned his 3rd save.  Larsen was the losing pitcher.  He pitched
7 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks.
