Center fielder Cesar Tovar had 4 hits at BUSCH STADIUM where the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11 innings 4 to 3.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. St. Louis won it in the 11th
inning. Lou Brock slapped a base-hit. Brock was running on the next pitch
and he stole second. Tovar then laced a single resulting in an exciting win
for St. Louis and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. St.
Louis finished with 15 hits in the victory.
Mike Wallace(3-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing
no runs. Fred Beene(2-3) was the loser in relief.
