August 8

Bob Aspromonte had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox
beat the New York AL Yankees in 10 innings 14 to 13.

The score was knotted at 13 after nine innings.  Boston won it in the 10th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Rico Petrocelli was hit by a pitch.  Tony
Conigliaro came next and he hit a single.  Aspromonte then banged out a
single giving Boston the victory and sending the 47,286 home-town fans home
happy.  A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

Gary Bell(20-3) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. The
losing pitcher was Dooley Womack(3-7) in relief.  Boston scored big getting 5
runs off him in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Rico Petrocelli hit 3 doubles and had 3 RBI at Fenway Park as the amazing
Boston Red Sox beat the woeful New York AL Yankees 6 to 5.

Boston had the game winning rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs utilizing 4
base hits.  Bob Aspromonte led off the inning for Boston when he slapped a
one-base hit.  George Scott stepped up next and he lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run (his 18th of the season).  This was the kind of game
that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.

Sparky Lyle(3-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 and 2/3 innings. Lyle got
relief help from John Wyatt who gained credit for his 27th save.  The losing
pitcher was Dooley Womack(3-8) in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 2
innings.

With this win, Boston has a division leading 88-49 record.  They have been 4-6
lately.  Not able to get much going in recent weeks, New York AL is 2-8 of
late and now has an overall record of 45-92, worst in the division.

August 21

Left fielder Carl Yastrzemski homered and had 2 RBI at Fenway Park as the
Boston Red Sox beat the league door-mat New York AL Yankees by the count of 5
to 4.

Boston won the game with a run in the 8th inning.  After an out was recorded,
George Scott delivered a single.  Bob Aspromonte was next and he reached on
an error.  Rico Petrocelli then worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring
the run.  New York AL made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.

The winning pitcher was Hank Fischer(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. John Wyatt recorded his 28th save.  Mel Stottlemyre(5-13) was the
loser.  He gave up 5 runs and 11 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.
