Third baseman Darrell Evans hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at WRIGLEY FIELD as
the Chicago NL Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7 to 6.

Pittsburgh was unable to recover after Chicago NL went ahead in the bottom of
the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits.  Pittsburgh made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Bert Blyleven(15-16) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.
Blyleven got help from Oscar Zamora who earned his 13th save.  The loss was
charged to Larry Demery(1-3).  He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks
in 5 innings. 

'We won because we did the little things right.' Alan Bosslet said after the
game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'

Rick Monday had 2 base hits at WRIGLEY FIELD as the Chicago NL Cubs won in
their last at-bat beating the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 3 to 2.

The game was won by Chicago NL with a run in the 9th inning.  Jerry Morales
drew a walk.  Morales swiped second base.  One out later, Frank Tepedino
struck out, unable to help the rally.  Steve Brye was up next and he stroked
a single resulting in an exciting win for Chicago NL and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Chicago NL had 9 hits for the night while
Pittsburgh had 6.  

The win went to Tom Hall(4-6) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. The
loss was charged to Ramon Hernandez(5-4) in relief.  He surrendered 1 hit and
1 walk in 1 and 2/3 innings.

In a one-sided affair the Pittsburgh Pirates batters pounded the lifeless
Chicago NL Cubs pitchers for 14 runs while Jim Rooker(16-8), with relief help
from Dave Giusti, held Chicago NL to 1 run.

Rooker had a solid outing for Pittsburgh.  He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 6
innings.  Pittsburgh had 19 hits overall, while Chicago NL had 6.  

Giusti was credited with his 24th save.  The losing pitcher was Rick
Reuschel(9-12).  He was knocked around by Pittsburgh, allowing 10 hits and 3
walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Al Oliver hit 2 doubles at WRIGLEY FIELD where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
hapless Chicago NL Cubs in 10 innings 5 to 4.

The score was tied at 4 after nine.  Pittsburgh won it in the 10th inning.
After two were out Dave Parker hit a bases-empty home run (his 7th of the
season).  Pittsburgh and Chicago NL each finished the afternoon with 8 hits.

The victory went to Rich Folkers(8-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Dave Giusti recorded his 25th save.  Jim Todd(4-5) was given the loss
in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning.
