In a dramatic ending the Atlanta Braves staged a comeback and held on to win
over the San Francisco Giants by the count of 4 to 2.

Atlanta came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 4 base hits. Denis Menke kicked off the action when he
stroked a one-base hit. Bud Harrelson came to the plate and slapped a
base-hit. Mack Jones then hit a single to load the bases. Bill White came
up and he rifled a three-run blast (his 14th of the season). San Francisco
went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

The victory went to Tom Seaver(10-13) who went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Seaver was helped out by Dick Radatz who recorded his 2nd save. Frank
Linzy(5-4) took the loss in relief.

'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Harrelson said. 'If you
just keep trying good things can happen!'

Felipe Alou had 4 hits at Candlestick Park where the Atlanta Braves beat the
San Francisco Giants in 12 innings by the score of 4 to 3.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Atlanta won the game in the
12th inning. After an out was recorded, Alou slapped a single. Bill White
stepped up next and he reached on an error. Hank Aaron got his turn next,
but he was a strikeout victim. Woody Woodward came up and he hit a single
scoring the run. Atlanta had 11 hits for the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Cecil Upshaw(4-3) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Lindy McDaniel(3-6) was the losing pitcher in relief. He
was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 innings of
work.

The Atlanta ballclub's record now stands at 66-72. With the loss, the San
Francisco ballclub's record is 73-65.
