July 14 29,647 fans watched an exciting game at Sportsman's Park. The St. Louis Cardinals topped the New York AL Yankees by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. The score was tied at 4 after nine. St. Louis came out the victor in the 12th inning. Billy Gardner reached on an error. Stan Musial came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Rip Repulski then doubled giving St. Louis the victory and sending the 29,647 home-town fans home happy. St. Louis had 13 hits for the night. Don Liddle(1-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Virgil Trucks(4-4) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
