Juan Marichal allowed Darren Dawson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 to 1 at
Forbes Field.

Marichal(11-8) gave San Francisco a solid outing.  He didn't give up much,
just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.  Pittsburgh proved to be no trouble in
the bottom of the 9th.  

Dennis Ribant(3-6) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 2 runs and 7 hits in
6 innings.

In a tight game it was the San Francisco Giants 7, the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 in
13 innings at Forbes Field.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings.  San Francisco ended up
winning it in the 13th inning.  Jim Davenport started the inning off right
when he slapped a base-hit.  After an out was recorded, Tito Fuentes came up
and he cracked a two-run shot (his 2nd of the season).  Both teams finished
the game with 15 hits.  

Frank Linzy(6-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Dennis
Ribant(3-7) absorbed the loss in relief.  The winning ways continue for San
Francisco.  They now have a record of 9-1 in recent days.  With this loss,
Pittsburgh has a 5-5 record of late, 72-64 overall.

Pittsburgh jumped on top of San Francisco in the 7th inning when they tallied
2 runs on 1 hit.  Pittsburgh had a total of 10 hits for the game.  

The victory was credited to Orlando Pena(11-4) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Bruce Dal Canton recorded his 1st save.  Gaylord Perry(13-14)
took the loss.  He allowed 4 homeruns in 7 and 1/3 innings of work.
