the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3.
Bert Blyleven(1-0) pitched a solid game. He went 7 innings allowing 8 hits
and 3 walks. Danny Frisella, after tossing a perfect ninth, was credited
with his 1st save.
The losing pitcher was Jerry Reuss(0-1). 'I had a little blister on my index
finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Blyleven said. 'I was
lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'

Rick Reuschel was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Bill Madlock had 4 hits as the Chicago NL Cubs defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 7 to 1 at Wrigley Field.
Pittsburgh fell behind quickly as the Chicago NL offense came through in the
first inning scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. The early run support proved
sufficient for Reuschel(1-0) and Chicago NL. That was all the run support
Reuschel required. Chicago NL totaled 11 on the night.
Jim Rooker(0-1) suffered the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and 2
walks in 3 innings.

runners on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Dave Kingman who made the
Chicago NL fans a happy lot when he cracked a two-run shot (his 2nd of the
season). Overall Chicago NL out-hit Pittsburgh 17 to 10.
Bill Bonham(1-0) allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Fred
Scherman recorded the save, his 1st. Bruce Kison(0-1) took the loss. He
allowed Chicago NL 7 runs in 5 innings of work.
