April 17 The Montreal Expos nipped the Los Angeles Dodgers 3 to 2 at Jarry Park in a hard fought contest. Montreal did all of it's offensive work in the 6th inning as they scored 3 runs on 2 base hits. The highlight belonged to Gary Carter who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 1st of the season). Montreal managed only 6 on the night. Wilbur Wood(2-0) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Dan Warthen was credited with his 3rd save. Burt Hooton(0-2) took the loss. Los Angeles brought 6 runs across the plate in the top of the 5th inning with the help of 6 hits. The highlight belonged to Ron Cey who quieted the home crowd when he doubled plating three runs. Los Angeles had 14 hits overall, while Montreal had 10. The losing pitcher was Frank Tanana(2-1). He was knocked around by Los Angeles, allowing 9 hits and 5 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. Los Angeles won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Willie Crawford led off and started the attack as he laced a base-knock. Dan Warthen then had one get away for a wild pitch. Davey Lopes was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Andy Etchebarren stepped in and he banged out a single. Jim Wynn stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Ron Cey kept the inning going and drew a walk which scored a run. Gary Matthews was next and he drew a walk plating another run. Lee Lacy then stroked a single scoring the final run of the inning. Los Angeles had 10 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Don Sutton(2-1) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs. Grant Jackson earned his 1st save. Warthen(0-1) was given the loss in relief. 'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Warthen said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
