due to a screw up, had to replay games 1 & 2 OCTOBER 3 Center fielder Willie Mays had 2 base hits as the New York NL Giants pulled out a win over the New York AL Yankees by a score of 7 to 6 at Polo Grounds. New York NL won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Mays smacked a single, and an error was also committed. Whitey Lockman stepped up next and he laced a single making New York NL the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. New York NL had 10 hits for the afternoon while New York AL had 7. Joe Margoneri(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 runs. Tommy Byrne(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
