Bob Allison slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Minnesota Twins staged a
dramatic comeback over the New York AL Yankees in 13 innings by a score of 6
to 4 at Metropolitan Stadium.

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings.  Minnesota ended up
winning it in the 13th inning.  After two were out Rod Carew started the
rally when he tripled.  Rich Reese came next and he stroked a single which
scored a run.  Allison then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run
(his 30th of the season) giving Minnesota the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd.  Minnesota finished with 9 hits in the victory.

Ron Kline(3-2) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the win. Steve Hamilton(3-2)
suffered the loss in relief.  He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3
innings.

Jim Merritt went 9 strong innings and Harmon Killebrew had 2 base hits as the
Minnesota Twins defeated the dreadful New York AL Yankees by the score of 1
to 0 at Metropolitan Stadium.

Minnesota won the game with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Merritt
hit a single.  Two outs later Mel Stottlemyre came to the plate and uncorked
a wild pitch.  Killebrew then singled scoring the run.  The New York AL
batters went down meekly in the 9th.

Merritt(13-10) went the distance for the shutout. Stottlemyre(6-14) ended up
with the loss.  He pitched 8 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 walk.

'Merritt was the man today,' Rick Ramacier said.  'He had just about every
pitch working.'
