may 19 Billy Williams collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI as the New York NL Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7 to 4 at Shea Stadium. New York NL tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with the help of 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Rusty Staub who brought the crowd to their feet when he laced a base-knock which was good for two runs. Both teams totaled 10 on the night. New York NL had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. Rusty Staub led off and started the attack as he banged out a single. After an out was recorded, Billy Williams stepped in and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 7th of the season). Ken Sanders was perfect in relief and gained credit for his 1st save. The victory went to Randy Tate(1-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Burt Hooton(3-5) was given the loss. New York NL now has a record of 19-25. With this loss, Los Angeles has a 4-6 record of late, 22-22 overall.
