august 3 Bert Blyleven had a strong outing as the Chicago NL Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 innings by the score of 3 to 2 at Wrigley Field. The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Chicago NL came out the victor in the 10th inning. After two were out Bernie Carbo was the sparkplug when he blasted a solo shot (his 11th of the season). Jerry Morales stepped up next and he slapped a single. Barry Foote then doubled resulting in a mighty exciting win for Chicago NL and the 49,021 home town fans in attendance. Chicago NL totaled 8 on the night. The win went to Darold Knowles(3-1) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Dick Drago(1-5) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 3 hits in 2/3 of an inning.
