Roger Metzger lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Dodger Stadium as the Los
Angeles Dodgers beat the New York NL Mets by the count of 5 to 4.

Mike Thompson(2-3) was solid if not spectacular.  He went 5 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 3 walks.  Both teams finished the game with 9 hits.

Grant Jackson got the save, his 11th.  Jon Matlack(10-12) ended up with the
loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Thompson said,
'this was one of those times.'

In a dramatic ending at Dodger Stadium the Los Angeles Dodgers won in their
last at-bat beating the New York NL Mets by the count of 2 to 1.

Los Angeles won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  Oscar Gamble stroked a
base-hit.  Rick Rhoden was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out
later, Johnny Oates stepped up to the plate and he hit a single making Los
Angeles the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Los Angeles
had only 5 hits for the game.

Rhoden(6-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing 1 run.

Don Sutton took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Dodger Stadium where the
Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York NL Mets 2 to 0.

Sutton(22-2) was simply too much for the New York NL batters.  He allowed only
1 hit and 1 walk in 7 innings.  The right-handed Sutton had his no-hit bid
broken up by Jose Cruz who doubled with two outs in the 6th inning.  Neither
team managed to score after the 4th inning.

Sutton got help from Al Downing who was credited with his 6th save.  Sonny
Siebert(3-4) was the loser.  It was another victory for Los Angeles at Dodger
Stadium.  Now their winning streak stands at 6 games.

WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Mickey Lolich robbed Ron Cey of a base hit.

Pat Kelly had 2 base hits as the New York NL Mets staged a dramatic comeback
over the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 6 to 4 at Dodger Stadium.

New York NL erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
with 3 runs utilizing 4 base hits.  Joe Torre kicked off the action when he
delivered a one-base hit.  Mike Tyson next to the plate and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Kelly came up and he laced a base-hit scoring
a run.  Cleon Jones came up and he slapped a single plating one more runner.
Rusty Staub stepped into the box and ripped a base-knock scoring the final
run of the inning.  New York NL had 13 hits for the afternoon while Los
Angeles had 9.

The win went to Mickey Lolich(10-13) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings. Lolich
got help from Bob Apodaca who was credited with his 20th save.  The losing
pitcher was Rick Rhoden(6-7) in relief.  He gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in 3
innings.

With this win, New York NL has a 52-66 record.  They have been 3-7 lately.
Los Angeles will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run
- and not a start of a new trend.
