G#1-It looked like it was over in the 1st inning when
Boston scored 4 runs on 4 singles and an intentional
walk off Jim McGlothin. But in the top of the 3rd
Johnny Bench hit a solo HR off Gary Bell's card and
the Reds said, "Hey we can do it". So in the top of
the 4th they sent 10 batters to the plate, rapped 6
singles, a double, and received a WP and a throwing
error by the Redsox to score 6 runs and take a 7-4
lead. Tony Perez ledoff the 5th with a HR and Cincy
led 8-4. PHer Frank Kostro singled in another run in
the 8th to make it 9-4, but George Scott led off the
bottom of the inning, by getting on base via a Doug
Rader error and the "the Beantowners" went on to score
2 and make it 9-6. The Reds added a run in the 9th
and Ted Abernathy mowed down the home club as they
beat the Sox at their own game (hitting)
10-6..............G#2-Mel Queen had a perfect game
until Bob Asprmonte got a 2 out double off Queen's
card with 2 out in the fifth and the Reds went on to
win another one 4-2. Vada Pinson ledoff the game with
a double and Rose followed with a single (both column
4's) and the Reds led 1-0 until Pinson homered in the
3dr to make it 2-0. Tommy Helms hits a solo shot in
the 6th to make it 3-0 but the Redsox got a 2 out
rally going in the bottom of the inning, scoring one
to make it 3-1. In the top of the 7th after a
intentional walk to Tony Perez, Lee May singled in a
run to make it 4-1. George Scott doubled and scored
on PHer Tony Conigliaro's SF and it was 4-2 after 7.
The game's deciding moment came in the bottom of the
8th with one out we intentionally walked Yaz to load
the bases, brought in Abernathy and George Scott
promptly lined out to Tony Perez at 3b, who tramped on
the bag to complete the inning ending doubleplay.
Abernathy again mowed down Boston 1,2 3 in the 9th for
the save. This time Cincy won playing their game,
pitching and defense. GAme #3 looks like Lee Stange
(15-7) vs Gary Nolan (18-12).
