Jerry Reuss had a strong outing as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New
York NL Mets by the score of 1 to 0 at Three Rivers Stadium.

The winning run, and the only run, was scored by Pittsburgh in the bottom of
the 2nd inning.  The early run support proved sufficient for Reuss(14-10) and
Pittsburgh.  That was all the run support Reuss required.  Dave Giusti earned
the save with a perfect ninth, his 23rd save.

The loss was charged to Jon Matlack(11-13).  He was stingy with the
baserunners, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
