Subject: 1967 World Series Games 3-5
We're going back to Fenway. Coming into Cincinnati, the Red Sox had to win 2 games to bring the series back home and did so, winning games 3 and 4 before losing game 5. Game 3: Lee Stange was outstanding for Boston, pitching 7 shutout innings and giving up just 3 hits. Rico Petrocelli knocked in the first run with a sac fly in the 4th. Yaz hit a 2 run homer in the 7th and the Red Sox coasted from there. Stange was the key, giving Cincy little opportunity to score. Red Sox 4 Reds 1 Game 4: All Boston here, and it got ugly. The Reds scored first in teh 2nd inning on a Vada Pinson sac fly and things were looking good for Reds fans. But the BoSox erupted in teh 3rd. Tony Conigliaro doubled in a pair of runs and George "Boomer" Scott followed with a 2 run bomb. It was just starting for the Soc offense. They scored in every inning except the 8th for the remainder of the game, totaling 11 runs on 19 hits. Yaz hit his 2nd home run and Joe Foy added a pinch solso home run. Mike Andrews, Rico Petrocelli, and George Scott all had 3 hits. Gary Bell was the benficiary of the outburst, but he pitched very well for his 6 innings, picking up the win with some mopup innings from Jose Santiago and Sparky Lyle. Red Sox 11 Reds 2 Game 3: Jim McGlothlin quickly put a stop to the Red Sox odffense, shutting them down on 5 hits over 7 2/3 innings, and Ted Abernathy closed it out for his 2nd save of the 1967 World Series. The Reds got 2 in the second inning when Lee May doubled ina run and then scored on a Johnny Bench single. Bench singled in another run later in the game, and Davey Johnson hit a solo home run. Reds 4 Red Sox 0 Sox need to sweep the last 2 at home. _______________________________________ Sent via the Warp Drive WebMail system. |
