forget Mike, I think Tom Austad is the guy who deserves congrats :) Also, Larry Cupp did a fine job with the Reds. SteveD ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 4:46 PM Subject: Re: [PreSmiley] No Buckner this time, Boston World Champs
good job Mike. Dennis v. ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [PreSmiley] No Buckner this time, Boston World Champs
Congrats to the Red Sox! And also the Reds on an excellent season; here's hoping that the Reds reverse the outcome in the 1974 Series. :-) Alan ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 11:07 AM Subject: [PreSmiley] No Buckner this time, Boston World Champs
Gary Bell, with a 5 hit shutout, lowers his ERA from 8.38 to 4.34 and Tony Gonzalez's RBI triple in the 3rd was the only run of the game as the Redsox win 4 of the last 5 to take the 1967 series. Tony Perez ledoff the 9th with a chance for a HR @ 1-16 but the dice came up 20 and we knew the baseball Gods were with the "Beantowners". Cincy had 1st and 3rd with 1 out in the 2nd but could not score. In the bottom of the inning Boston had the bases full with 1 out and could not score. In the 4th the Reds got the first 2 on but Cardenas GIDP ended that threat. In the 5th Scott did the same for Boston. Gary Bell would get my vote for MVP with his two wins, especially this one. Boston's hitting was spread out fairly well with 6 of the 8 starters hitting over .300. Who ever said good pitching beats good hitting? Today the Redsox beat the "Queen City" boys at their own game.
