Second baseman Gene Baker blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as
the Chicago NL Cubs beat the New York AL Yankees 7 to 3.
New York AL fell behind quickly as the Chicago NL offense came through in the
first inning scoring 3 runners on 5 hits. Chicago NL finished with 11 hits
while New York AL ended up with 7.
Herm Wehmeier(5-5) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Bob Grim(5-3)

19,540 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago NL Cubs
topped the New York AL Yankees by the slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
The score was knotted at zero after nine innings. Chicago NL won the hard
fought contest in the 11th inning. Dick Kryhoski opened up the inning nicely
when he slapped a single. Bob Talbot was next and he laid down a sacrifice
bunt. Clyde McCullough then lined a base-hit. Bill Serena stepped in and he
lined a one-base hit. Ray Herbert then threw a high and inside pitch that
got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball. Ted Lepcio kept the rally
going and laced a single. Chicago NL and New York AL each finished the night
with 6 hits.
Ellis Kinder(4-2) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Herbert(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. Chicago NL now has
a record of 21-30. With this loss, New York AL has a 4-6 record of late,
29-22 overall.

Bill Skowron had 2 base hits and Whitey Ford allowed just 3 hits as the New
York AL Yankees defeated the Chicago NL Cubs by the score of 4 to 1 at
Wrigley Field.
Ford(6-5) gave New York AL a solid outing. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits
and 5 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.13 to 2.91. Chicago NL
proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
