Pittsburgh commits 8 errors in the 3-game series.
 
Game 1: Mets 5 Pirates 1
Pat Zachry spins a 7-hitter.  Pat Kelly and Reggie Smith go yard.
 
Game 2: Mets 6 Pirates 5 12 innings
5 Pittsburgh errors lead to 4 unearned runs - enough to keep the Mets in the game.  Bob Apodaca equals his win total from all of last year.
 
Game 3: Mets 4 Pirates 1
Jon Matlack hurls his 3rd CG in 6 starts.

Bruce Boisclair had 2 base hits and Pat Zachry pitched a complete game at
Three Rivers Stadium as the New York NL Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by
the count of 5 to 1.
 
New York NL took the lead for good in the 6th inning scoring one runner using
2 hits.  Both teams finished the game with 7 hits.  
 
The victory went to Zachry(1-1) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The loss
was charged to Bruce Kison(1-1).  He surrendered 2 runs and 4 hits in 7
innings.

30,324 fans were treated to a fine game at Three Rivers Stadium as only one
run separated the combatants at game's end.  The New York NL Mets won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.
 
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings.  New York NL was
victorious in the 12th inning.  Dave Collins led off and keyed the rally when
he reached on an error.  Bruce Boisclair was next and he lined a single.
John Milner then delivered a single driving in a run.  Sixto Lezcano came up
and he lashed a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning.  New York
NL banged out 12 on the night.  
 
Bob Apodaca(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Skip
Lockwood was credited with his 3rd save.  Gene Garber(2-2) was tagged with
the loss in relief.

Jon Matlack had a strong outing as the New York NL Mets outscored the
Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 1.
 
In the 3rd inning New York NL scored 3 runs. That early run support was enough
for Matlack(4-2) and New York NL.  After the 4th inning, neither team was
able to score.  
 
Jerry Reuss(1-2) ended up with the loss.  'Matlack pitched a gem of a game',
Darren Dawson recounted.  'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
