46,008 fans watched an exciting game at Jarry Park.  The Montreal Expos topped
the New York NL Mets by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Montreal went ahead for good in the bottom of the 7th inning plating an
isolated run on 2 hits.  Ellis Valentine delivered a one-base hit.  Dan Ford
followed, but he was set down on strikes.  After another out, Chip Lang came
up and he ripped a base-knock scoring the run.  New York NL had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The win went to Lang(3-2) who allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Lang was
helped out by Dale Murray who recorded his 6th save.  The loss was charged to
Jon Matlack(5-3).  By giving up 6 runs in 7 innings his ERA increased from
3.10 to 3.67.
