may 6 Nelson Briles pitched 11 strong innings as the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in 20 innings by a score of 2 to 1 at Jack Murphy Stadium. Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, San Diego pulled the game out in the 20th inning. Jerry Turner laced a base-hit. Mike Tomeo then called for a steal which was successful. Dave Freisleben then would hit into a fielders choice giving San Diego the victory as 40,678 happy fans celebrated wildly. San Diego had 10 hits for the night. Freisleben(4-2) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Al Downing(0-1) was the loser in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work. Game decided in b20th...this does wonders for AB/IP limits !!!!!
