Subject: votes and 1966+ draft order
With 12 votes in so far, "Less Autoplay" has clinched a resounding victory over "More Autoplay", so when the schedule is created there will be somewhere in the vicinity of 54 games of autoplay, not 81. On the fielding issue, "Adopt" (at one threshold or the other) is running neck and neck with "Don't Adopt"; they have 6 votes each. ---------------- Regarding the 1966 draft order and all years beyond that, I have decided to remove the 3-4-5-6.... order from consideration, primarily because it would hurt the weaker teams too much, and also (not that I expect this would actually happen) because I would prefer not to see anyone "targeting" the third best record - as opposed to first or second - in a year where somebody like Babe Ruth is in the draft pool. That leaves two nearly-identical options: a completely random order or an ALMOST completely random order, where we stick the two league champions in slots #15 and #16 before randomizing the remainder. With a nod towards that small amount of "class envy", we'll take the latter approach, and I hope that will not lead to teams deliberately NOT making it to the World Series just to avoid a poor draft slot. :-) I realize there is some sentiment for adding gimmicks such as "make sure the worst 'x' teams draft no lower than...", however that (or any similar scheme) opens the door for teams to improve their draft position by losing, which defeats one of the main points of doing things the way we are. It was clearly stated on the web page from the very beginning that a random draft order would be used - or that 3-4-5-6.... thing which wound have been even harder on the weak teams - so while we sympathize with the weaker teams (and, over time, we will all BE one of the weaker teams* at some point), I trust that everyone understands the reasoning here. Alan * except for the Yankees :-) |
