Subject: Florida @ Los Angeles
The Marlins extend their road losing streak to 10 games in the city of angels.
G1 Ramon Martinez (6 4 1 0 3 4) brought his ERA down to 4.05 with a strong effort vs. Florida. He got plenty of support from two hitters as both Mike Piazza and Billy Hatcher struck for 2 home runs. By the time the bullpen came in, the Dodgers had a 5-1 lead and would not be threatened again. Rich Renteria and Jeff Conine each led Florida with 2 hits apiece.
Final Score: Los Angeles 7, Florida 3 WP- R.Martinez (6-7), LP- Cummings (0-3) HR- Piazza 2 (15), Hatcher 2 (5)
G2 Again the Dodgers got a strong starting pitching performance. This time, Ricky Bones (6 4 1 1 4 4) was on the hill, and he shut out Florida until Tim Wallach's sac fly in the 6th made the score, 3-1. Alex Arias' RBI-single in the 7th brought the Marlins within 3-2. But, the red-hot Chris Gwynn added insurance with an RBI -single in the 8th. Gwynn had a PH single in the opener, and in this game the rotund outfielder drove in 3 of the 4 runs while going 3-for-4 with a triple. Ryan Bowen (8 12 4 4 3 3) stranded lots of runners in going the distance for the Fish.
Final Score: Los Angeles 4, Florida 2 WP- Bones (7-2), LP- Bowen 3-5, SV- R.Hernandez (14) HR- none
G3 In the finale, it was once again a Chris Gwynn show. Batting out of the 9th spot, Gwynn led off the 3rd with a single, and then scored on Eric Karros' 2-run single. In the 4th, Gwynn was part of a 3-run rally when he struck a 2-run single. After a groundout in the 6th, Gwynn's 8th inning triple gave him a stellar 4 2 3 3 line. For the series, Gwynn resembled his dad, going 7-for-9 with 2 triples and 6 RBI. Manny Lee was the only Marlin of note. Lee singled, doubled and hit his 2nd homer in yet another lost cause.
