Willie Montanez cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Phil Niekro had a strong
outing at Fulton Cnty. Stadium as the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles
Dodgers by the count of 6 to 0.

Montanez had a big evening at the plate.  He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 1st inning and lofted a three-run bomb (his 3rd of the
season) in the 3rd inning.  Neither team managed to score after the 3rd
inning.

It was the 3rd shutout of the year for Niekro(10-4). Don Sutton(2-8) was the
loser.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 2 walks in
4 innings.

Niekro was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath of the
game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked.  My arm felt
great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings.  I only hope
that I can do it again next time out!'

In a lop-sided win the Los Angeles Dodgers ripped the Atlanta Braves by a 10
to 4 count.

The Atlanta fans didn't appreciate the big day Steve Garvey had.  He delivered
a one-base hit in the 4th inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 5th of the
season) in the 5th inning and tripled in the 8th inning.  Los Angeles had a
total of 14 hits for the game.

The victory went to Burt Hooton(7-2) who went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs. Carl
Morton(2-4) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 4 hits in 2/3 of
an inning.

Rusty Staub lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI and Joe Niekro
held Los Angeles scoreless on just 3 hits as the Atlanta Braves outscored the
Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 0.

Niekro(5-3) was simply too much for the Los Angeles batters.  He didn't allow
much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.59 to
3.06.  Atlanta rapped out 8 hits for the night.

Dick Ruthven(4-6) was the loser.  He gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

In a two run game the Los Angeles Dodgers got by the Atlanta Braves in 10
innings by the score of 4 to 2.

The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings.  Los Angeles ended up
winning it in the 10th inning.  After two outs Johnny Oates was the sparkplug

drew a walk.  Dusty Baker then doubled scoring two teammates.  Los Angeles
finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The victory was credited to Tom Murphy(2-0) who went 2/3 of an inning,
