Subject: Expos at Padres Week 18

No new manager this week.

Game 1
Wilbur Wood came through with a solid 8 innings and Ken Singleton had 2 base
hits at San Diego Stadium as the amazing Montreal Expos beat the San Diego
Padres 4 to 2.

In the 3rd inning Montreal scored 3 runs when they had 5 base hits.  That was
all the runs Wood(14-7) needed.  Neither team managed to score after the 4th
inning.

Dale Murray recorded his 30th save.  Bill Greif(7-2) was given the loss.  He
pitched 8 innings allowing 8 hits and 5 walks.

Game 2
The mighty Montreal Expos defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 4 to 1
at San Diego Stadium.

Montreal tallied 2 runs in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base hits.  Frank
Tanana started the inning off right when he stroked a one-base hit.  After an
out was recorded, Ted Sizemore came to the plate and slapped a base-hit.  Ken
Singleton then delivered a base-hit knocking in a run.  Mike Schmidt came up
and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Mike Jorgensen stepped into the box
and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.  That early scoring
was all that Tanana(18-7) needed.  San Diego was retired without difficulty
in the bottom of the 9th.

Tanana got help from Dale Murray who was credited with his 31st save.  Ron
Reed(10-6) was the losing pitcher.  He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 5
innings.

Game 3
In a thriller the amazing Montreal Expos staged a dramatic comeback then held
on to win over the San Diego Padres by a score of 6 to 5 at San Diego
Stadium.

Montreal won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  After two outs Ted Sizemore started the rally when he
doubled.  Mike Anderson was next and he cracked a two-run shot (his 3rd of
the season).  This was a game of many highs and lows for the home town fans,
as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.

The win was credited to Woodie Fryman(2-2) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing
no runs. Chuck Taylor was credited with his 3rd save.  Tom House(5-3) was
given the loss in relief.

Mike Tomeo was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
tonight'

Game 4
The very talented Montreal Expos defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 4
to 1 at San Diego Stadium.

Steve Renko(9-9) pitched a fine game.  He surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks in 7
innings.  San Diego proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

Dale Murray recorded the save, his 32nd.  Gaylord Perry(13-13) was hit with
the loss.  He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 6 innings.
